He worked as a secretary in the National Insurance Agency from 1929 and in the Ministry of Justice from 1934. He joined NS in December 1940, and was appointed a judge in the NS-appointed "den commissariske high court" in January 1941, where he, among other things, worked on the preparations for and the implementation of the so-called state act at Akershus on 1 February 1942.
In 1943, Vasbotten also became chairman of the so-called Protocol Committee (Rikskontrollen), which was to function as a consultative and advisory body for Quisling and which was to take over the work of the Storting's control committee. He was also in the Germanic SS Norway as deputy squad leader and head of department.
In the treason settlement after the war, Vasbotten was sentenced to 20 years of forced labor for assisting the enemy and for his involvement in changing Norway's state constitution. He was released on 16 May 1950 and formally pardoned on 8 May 1952.
