Karl Aagaard Østvig: Program Director for NRK (1943-1945)

Karl Aagaard Østvig made his debut in Stuttgart in 1914 and was associated with the opera in the same city from 1914–1919. In the years 1919–1923 he was involved with the Opera in Vienna. He was the first Emperor in Richard Strauss's Die Frau ohne Schatten at its premiere in Vienna in 1919. He had minor roles in Walter Fyrst's films Young Wills (1943) and Villmarkens lov (1944).

From 1932 he worked as a singing teacher in Oslo. He joined the Nasjonal Samling in 1940 and was a member until the end of the Second World War. In the years 1943–1945 he worked as program director for NRK, appointed by Nasjonal Samling. His son, the actor Karl Aagaard Østvig jr., served as SS-Untersturmführer during the Second World War and even in combat in Modlin, north-west of Warsaw, 1944.
