Speech at Kongsvinger Fortress, November 19, 1943: If it succeeds in breaking the Germanic peoples, Europe will perish

Minutes of the Leader's speech at the final course for Germanic SS Norway at Kongsvinger Fortress on 19 November 1943.

By Vidkun Quisling.

It is a great pleasure for me to see the order and discipline that prevails here at the school. Because it is precisely order and discipline that we Norwegians need to assert ourselves in this great and decisive time.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of the struggle we are waging. There are probably some who waver and begin to doubt when we meet opposition. But for those who see and truly understand the depth of this struggle, no one can doubt what a Norwegian's duty is to people and country.

We must fight with all our might to save our people from the fate which is inevitable if Bolshevism should win this battle. We are waging a decisive battle of destiny for our people and our nation. What matters is whether we shall perish or not. Personally, I have always reacted purely instinctively against Bolshevism and Americanism, and I believe that every true Norwegian does the same. We see how England and America seek to usurp the entire dominion of Europe, and that Soviet Russia is doing the same, and it must be clear today to every single clear-thinking Norwegian, that if it were to succeed in breaking the Germanic peoples, the whole Europe perish.

I have twice previously been to this old venerable fortress. The first time as a cadet in 1905, when relations between Sweden and Norway were extremely tense.

The second time was as Minister of Defense in the Farmers' Government on the occasion of the fortress's 200th anniversary.

Today, for the third time, it is a special pleasure for me to be here together with Norwegians who have reached an understanding of the great things that are taking place at the time and are ready for active efforts in this great struggle.

I know that we will stand together and that no one will fail in this great world showdown.
