During the war, he was guilty of several allegations, and reported Norwegians both to the German security police and the Abwehr intelligence service. He had a fiery appearance, and could pursue even minor matters. A student who whistled "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" in the square in Horten ended up in prison and three months in Berg prison when Fjeldstad intervened.
After the war
After the war, he was put on trial in the treason settlement. On 16 October 1946, he was sentenced in the Agder Court of Appeal to 20 years in prison for illegal deprivation of liberty. However, he was released from the Bjørkelangen forced labor camp as early as 9 November 1951.
