Thorleif Fjeldstad: Leader of the Hirdmarine (1943-1945)

Fjeldstad was a former naval lieutenant. When the war came to Norway, he joined the Nasjonal Samling on 2 November 1940. On 17 November 1943 it became clear that he was to become leader of the Hirdmarinen, an organization that had been established the previous year. The order as "hirdmarine leader" applied from 10 November.

During the war, he was guilty of several allegations, and reported Norwegians both to the German security police and the Abwehr intelligence service. He had a fiery appearance, and could pursue even minor matters. A student who whistled "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" in the square in Horten ended up in prison and three months in Berg prison when Fjeldstad intervened.

After the war
After the war, he was put on trial in the treason settlement. On 16 October 1946, he was sentenced in the Agder Court of Appeal to 20 years in prison for illegal deprivation of liberty. However, he was released from the Bjørkelangen forced labor camp as early as 9 November 1951.
