In February 1941, Liv Anker Tomter asked to be relieved as national leader of Kvinnehirden, and Vidkun Quisling, the "leader" of the fascist party Nasjonal Samling (NS), appointed Martin as leader in April of the same year. She served in the position until October 1942 when Randi Roberg took over.
In the national treason settlement after the war, Johanne Margrethe Martin, Sandvika, was sentenced in Aker herredsrett to prison for 9 months and loss of rights. She died in 1994.
